Legacy Project Initiatives

Legacy is what one wishes to leave behind , maybe beyond material things , in the human , long - term sense . There may be much truth in the aphorism that " Life is short , Art is long . " . Indeed , Art has much longevity in comparison to a human lifetime . While one human lifetime may last a hundred years , a masterpiece of Art may endure the elapse of a millennium , a thousand years . Durability or resistance to decay may be among some of the essences of  a material Legacy , however , the true intentions of the long - term Legacy has much more higher nuances of meaning .

Perhaps Legacy may be better understood in terms of Memetic Legacy , when a meme makes reference to the set specific patterns of thought , habits ( behaviors ) , and emotions that memes evoke or effect . Always with the humanitarian , human sense , the altruistic intention of this Memetic Legacy is that of the reverance of remembrance , having good memories of the past . Perhaps analogy is necessary . It is said that when animals pass on , they may leave behind their fur skins , while humans may figuratively leave behind their good name or reputation , with honor . Maybe that is among one of the differences between animals and humans , the propensity to embellish good reputation that lasts generations after one`s passing . This is not to say that the duration of the animal Legacy is not long lasting , on the contrary , it may have similar duration , but the human Legacy is thought to have more significance in terms of sentiments of a particular place and time , and circumstance , that make relevances to one`s journey lifetime of  good memories . Nostalgia of the good ole days is a common occurrence . However , Legacy in this higher sense , is beyond mere nostalgia .

Hence , Legacy in the latter sense makes references to sources of inspiration , perhaps to the future generations that may appreciate the significances of this Legacy . Although Legacy may have connotations in terms of the past , and future , this does not rule out the possibility of the present . Often , the Living Legacy does come to mind , as well .

One poignant example of Living Legacy may be that of watching a nostalgia film that features a nostalgiac figure from the past . When the film plays , it is as if that person were brought back to life on the silver screen , with Hollywood glamor , like that of the ancient documentary of historic importance , a biography .
